A Sweet February Tradition My Kids Love

Dose of Kinder and Kindness

Hello Sweet Mama,

As we soak in God's incredible love in February, I wanted to share a simple, inexpensive, and deeply meaningful February tradition I do with my own kids every year leading up to Valentine's Day. It's one of their favorite things - and honestly one of mine too.

You only need a few basic supplies: construction paper, scissors, a marker, and tape.

Here's the activity: "14 Days of Why We Love You"

  1. Make a list of all the reasons you love each of your children - personality traits, character strengths, sweet habits, anything that makes them them.
  2. Cut out one large heart (I use red) for each child and write: "We love you because..."
  3. Cut out 14 smaller hearts for each child in whatever colors you want. (I pick colors specific to each kid.)
  4. Write one reason you love them on each of the 14 hearts.
  5. Hide the hearts in a little secret stash.
  6. Every night, after they fall asleep, tape one heart on their bedroom door.
  7. On Valentine's Day, finish with a special message like: "God made you" or "God loves you."

It's simple... but I promise you, it's powerful.

Kids light up when they feel seen, valued, and loved - and what a beautiful way to tie it back to the heart of our February memory verse: God's love for us.

But can I be honest? This tradition is just as meaningful to my mama heart as it is for theirs.

Pausing long enough to write out the reasons I love each child reminds me of the intentional, beautiful way God created them. Their strengths, their quirks, their tenderness, their big emotions - all of it is handcrafted by Him. Every February, this little ritual helps me slow down and really see them again... not just the daily tasks or messes, but the treasure God made them to be.
