Hello Mama,
Whew... this email is coming to you a bit later than planned and I want to be honest about why.
Our family just returned from visiting family in New Hampshire - bitter cold, snow, and all. And right when we got home, the stomach bug swooped in and took us all out for several days. We've finally turned a corner, and I truly appreciate your patience and grace.
While we were up north, I found myself reflecting a lot on this month's memory verse"
"Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men." - Colossians 3:23
Seeing the snow and feeling that biting cold gave me a whole new perspective on what it means to "work heartily." I can't imagine having to shovel snow every time it falls - and yet people do. Not only that, but as we drove around, we saw construction workers and road crews outside in temperatures that made my Florida bones ache. Watching them out there made this verse hit different.
It made me look inward.
I don't have to shovel snow or endure freezing temperatures to work for an earthly boss who may or may not love Jesus.
I work for the people I love most - my family.
And still... do I "work with sincerity of heart, fearing the Lord"?
When we got home and suddenly found ourselves washing endless loads of sheets and towels, scrubbing bathrooms, and sanitizing everything we'd touched, there were definitely moments I wasn't working "heartily." My heart leaned more toward grumbling than gratitude.
But this verse gently reminded me:
- I can let these small, hidden, everyday tasks be acts of worship.
- I can shift my focus from the frustration to the reward that comes from the Lord.
So if your January started messy, tired, or not-at-all Pinterest-perfect... you are not alone. And maybe this month's verse is exactly what our hearts needed.
