Hello Mama,
Have you ever been lovingly called out by your kid?
I sure have - and it was a much needed gut punch.
Not long ago, we were getting ready for the day... play clothes, brushed hair, the usual morning routine. I checked the weather since it can be a bit unpredictable this time of year in South Florida. It was going to be a cool(ish), fall day - cloudy, overcast, nothing special. And definitely not the normal sunny days we are used to.
As my kids peered out the back door, I casually said, "It's pretty blah today, but it won't be too cold."
My daughter whipped her little head around, eyes wide, and said:
"Are you saying God's creation blah!?"
Ouch.
Conviction wrapped in innocence. And she was right.
I realized I was complaining about the very day that Lord had made - the day He had blessed us with.
So right there, in front of both my children, I corrected myself. I prayed aloud, asked for forgiveness, and thanked God that day - the coolness and clouds. As we prayed, I felt this shift... gratitude replacing grumbling.
Ever since, I've been trying to give thanks more openly throughout the day - for things big and small, lovely and "blah", expected and unexpected.
And honestly? Last month's memory verse has stayed with me in a way that I didn't anticipate: "Give thanks in all circumstances..." 1 Thessalonians 5:18
My daughter understood it much better - I, however, needed the reminder. I've found myself noticing more - the good things, the hard things, the in-between things - and turning them into tiny prayers of gratitude.
Has your child ever given you a gut punch like this? Hit reply and tell me - I genuinely love your stories.
Praying for you,
Susan @ Your Kinder Source
P.S. If you're working on building more independence with your little one, I created a Daily Task & Routine Checklist that walks them through simple tasks like brushing teeth, changing clothes, saying a prayer or memory verse, feeding a pet, and more. It's $12 (valued at $27) and such a helpful tool for creating peaceful, consistent rhythms at home.
And if you're not ready for the full set, I also offer a free simplified version - a sweet little starter chart to help your child build confidence and responsibility one step at a time.
