Hello Mama,
One of my favorite times of day is bedtime with my kids. π΄
Not because the house is finally quiet... or because my husband and I can finally have some uninterrupted time together.
It's one of my favorite times of day because I spend some quiet time with each of my kids alone.
My 3 year old picks a book of his choice and my 6 year and I are reading a chapter of the Junie B. Jones series together. (Occasionally my will read a picture book instead because why not.)
Yes, I have read some of their books close to 10 thousand times and it can get old.
But I have found some ways to make it ... not so old.
β
Here's my reading tip:
STOP turning the pages!
And observe those little eyes π as they explore the page or listenπas they add onto the story.
β
What I do:
When I get done reading the page(s), I lift the page just a bit so it's easy for the little fingers to turn to the next page. That also give an invitation to turn the page when they are ready.
β
We often what to ask children questions about stories and this is WONDERFUL, so do NOT stop that!
However, especially with the stories you read and re-read thousands of times, let your child be the pilot.
Last night, my 3 year old made up a whole side story about tiny little bugs he saw in the picture.
I hadn't noticed them before that moment and I've read this particular book about a million times with my kids and while I was teaching.
It was fun to hear how his brain π§ was connecting the stories and to see just how big his imagination is!
β
Bring life the same old stories you read and re-read with this tip.
You'll get some insight into why this book is your child's favorite.
β
Happy Reading!
